HASC Headliners Highlight Heavenly Hits - Review HASC 36 - A Time for Music

Hasc's A Time for Music 36 gets mixed reviews.

The visual affects were phenomenal, yet the choice of singers was sorely lacking. There was an abundance of Israeli singers. It seemed that most of the crowd were not familiar with their compositions. Each time a new Israeli singer was announced - we waited for Ishay Riboy to appear, yet it didn't happen.

Shulem Lemmer was amazing singing the new song "Six Hundred People". The graphic artistry accompanying the song was heroic.

Miami Boys Choir was back with some oldies and goodies, capitalizing on their Tik-Tok fame.

Eitan Katz mesmerized the audience with his infectious smile and catchy tunes.

Yet the mentalist Oz Pearlman act was a big time waster. When I pay big bucks for a music concert, I don't want to spend a large chunk of time watching a magic show.

Where was MBD? Where was Avrohom Fried? Where was Kempeh and Joey Newcomb? Abie? There were very few performers.

So although the virtual reality scored big, I was disappointed.

At least they brought out Schwekey for a final act which somewhat redeemed the organizers.

Nice that no politicians pontificated.

Delayed Dialogue Discourse Disseminated. Dialogue For Torah Issues & Ideas Fall 5783/2022 Volume 9

Wow! Just when I've given up on Dialogue, as they haven't published in 3 years, out comes a beautiful new volume.

Dialogue 9 opens with a tribute to R' Chaim Kanievsky ZT"L, penned by Rabbi Aharon Feldman.

The next article is also written by RAF, a rebuttal of the recent push to have Chareidim join the WZO. A very compelling and powerful read.

Rabbi Akiva Tatz follows with Faith and Faithfulness.

Rabbi Eytan Feiner is next with his Two-Tiered Terror, a delicious insightful read on the destruction of Amalek.

Eli Katz explains The Language of Numbers.

In Our Own Footsteps by Rabbi Dr. Dovid Fox

Rabbi Mordechai Plaut with The Attitude of Ramchal and Vilna Gaon to the Morech Nevuchim

Rabbi Aharon Lopiansky with Post-Pandemic Community Recovery

Rabbi Matisyahu Rosenblum with Creativity

Rabbi Abba Zvi Naiman discusses Making Up Missed Parshios

Lastly, but not least, Rabbi Herschel Grossman is back with his continued critique of Dr. Marc Shapiro - Rejoinder Regarding The Limits of Orthodox Theology.

Joey (Newcomb): Jolliest, Jiggiest, Joyfulmost, Jammingest, Jingo-master

It's not often that such raw talent appears on the scene and hits it out of the park three albums in a row, yet R' Joey Newcomb is back with his 3rd megahit album.

What sets R Joey apart is his hartzig niggunim coupled with his sincere humbleness.

Joey is able to take the simple messages in life and turn them into music that sings from the soul.

Cackling Camela Contacts Covid

The current VPOTUS is Biden's insurance that he won't be deposed.

The woman who failed on immigration and just about every project she touched, just seems to laugh it all off.

The fact that her staff is leaving her office in droves makes one very wary of having her in the Oval Office.

Now it seems that this fully vaccinated, boostered specimen has come down with Covid.

Accomplished Author Astor's Awesome Awaken! (Yaakov Astor)

This beautifully crafted book is the perfect antidote to evolutionist thinking.

Over 450 pages of pure creationist information, presented in a non-preaching manner.

Reads like a novel, a real pageturner that one can't put down.

Highly recommended.

Jewish Jubilation: Joyous Journeys V Jingles Jamboree

The long (18 years) awaited Journeys album by Abie Rotenberg has finally been released!

The music is great and the songs are thought-provoking but they don't measure up to the first 3 Journeys albums which were a league of their own.

The genious of Abie Rotenberg is how he always used the right voice for each particular song. On this album he has Shloime Gertner, Lev Tahor, Mordechai Shapiro, Shulem Lemmer, Avraham Fried, Joey Newcomb, Gershon Veroba, Tali Yess and the Maccabeats.

I am puzzled with the Moshe Yess song that he chose, when MY has so many more popular songs.

In any event, it is valuable to add to your Jewish Music collection. Buy it!

Where's Walder? Wicked Writer White-Washed

I have taken a hiatus from blogging, yet every now and again some news item strikes my fancy and I question whether to get back to the blog.

What is happening in the Walder case has finally convinced me to jump back in the ring.

For far too long we have protected perpetrators, whether for Tzniyus or other reasons at the expense of the victims. This needs to stop.

Loshon Hora did not kill Walder. He killed himself. Literally.

It is interesting to note, that these allegations go back 25 years. The first Kids Speak book was published in Hebrew in 1993 (28 years ago). In that book, there is a story titled Stay Away From Strangers, in which the protagonist seemingly is abused. Yet she is able to heal because she told her parents her secret.

In a more recent book, People Speak volume IV, there is a story on page 85 (What is Hateful to You) where the upshot is not to go to the press/media with bad news about someone, as that someone might be your close relative.

I wonder if abusers are made, not born, as that is what this "evidence" seems to bear.

Misfortune Mars Mount Meron Merriment

Growing up Lag Baomer meant going to the park during school and, as Abie Rottenberg notes, playing That Game.

In recent years thousands have flocked to Meron to participate in huge bonfires.

Although there is precedent in the Sephardic and Chassidic communities, the Litvish Yeshivos were never really part of this phenomenon until recently.

I suppose it is because today's children need some kosher outlets and this is one of them.

In any event, as many Gedolim have said, it is better to stay in the Beis Medrash and learn than to go to Meron.

Similarly, it is better to stay home and Daven with family than to travel to Uman for Rosh Hashana.

Condescending Covid Commander-in-Chief Cuomo - Criminal Conduct Crushes Career

See how the mighty have fallen. One year ago this man lectured us on Covid, won an Emmy award and was on the fast track to the White House. But now that it is becoming clear how he sent seniors to their deaths, covered it up, and has been labeled a Menuval, his career is over. Good Riddance.

Covid Cures Congestive-(pricing) Concept

Today I sailed through Manhattan, with ease. It seems that this miniscule bug that has wreaked havoc on our lives has at least one positive aspect in that I haven't heard any politicians speaking about congestive pricing recently.

Whippersnapper Whackos Whack Whitehouse

What a sad end to Trump's presidency. He accomplished so much in the past 4 years. It is disheartening to see it end this way.

Oldies Organized on OffTheRecord (Baruch Levine)

Continuing the trend started by Yaakov Shwekey 3 years ago, Baruch Levine has come out with a new recording of many of the favorites of yesteryear. MBD, Fried, Miami, Journeys, Moshe Yess, JEP - many of the best niggunim of our childhood come back to life on this recording. While Shwekey used an image of a casette tape for his cover, Baruch uses the image of a vinyl album. Worthwhile to get your children to appreciate these oldtime melodies, and it may just prompt one to pull out the old tapes and records and relive those nostalgic times of your childhood.

Destructive David Dinkins Dead

While the press seems to be lauding David Dinkins as the first and only black mayor of NYC, those who remember the riots/pogrom of 1991 when Dinkins let the natives "vent" for a few days, destroying life and property in Crown Heights, have no such praise. Thankfully, Mayor Rudolf Giuliani unseated him shortly thereafter.

Shwekey Seranades, Sings Special Song

On August 9th, President Trump was hosted by the Deal community for a fundraiser. Deal native and singer Yaakov Shwekey was supposed to sing a song for the president, but apparently it got scrapped due to timing contraints. Yisroel Besser updated the lyrics of Shwekey's hit We are a Miracle and retitled it We are America. Below are lyrics for the before and after, along with a video of the song meant for Trump being sung in a camp.

New Lyrics

A nation so diverse, Yet united at its core, Freedom opportunity Allowing us to soar, Its been four great years Four GREAT years And you know don’t you really know You’ve been heaven-sent, Mr President To stand strong, The glory of our history, Our flag its flying high, The promise of our future, We raise our voices high Its been four great years Four GREAT years And you know don’t you really know You’ve been heaven-sent, Mr President To stand strong, We love America We love America May Gd, hear our prayer, sing it loud and clear Cause we love America, – It doesn’t matter where, and it doesn’t matter when, You’ve got this country in your heart To make it great again, Give us four more years Four MORE years Cause you know don’t you really know You’ve been heaven-sent, Mr President To stand strong, – We love America We love America May Gd, hear our prayer, sing it loud and clear Cause we love America, Every day you fight a battle, On the news they try to hide, Your victories, your accomplishments, The way you lead with pride But truth is always stronger, so join us as we sing our song… We love America

Old Lyrics

A nation in the desert We started out as slaves Made it to the motherland, And then came the Crusades It's been so many years Crying so many tears Don't you know, don't you really know? We are pushed to the ground Through our faith we are found Standing strong The Spanish inquisition ...wanted us to bow But our backs aint gonna bend Never then, and never now It's been so many years Crying so many tears Don't you know, don't you really know? We are pushed to the ground Through our faith we are found Standing strong We are a miracle We are a miracle We were chosen with love And embraced from above We are a miracle Extermination was the plan When the devil was a man Ohhh ohhh But the few who carried on Live for millions who are gone It's been so many years crying so…
