I, along with many others, were saddened to see the failure of the Israeli aircraft to land on the moon.
In what was an awesome attempt to join the superpowers who reached the moon, Israel fell short.
But not only am I sad because of the failure, but rather we should all be sad because the Tanach that was aboard crash landed along with the craft.
Perhaps that can answer the question that was posed to R' Yaakov Kamenetzky in 1969 - ואיני יכול לנגע בך How could the US astronauts have touched the moon?
Maybe the answer is that the Jewish People and Israel will not be able to touch it - but others can.
In any event, it seems that the Israelis are already working on the second attempt. Kol Hakovod!

From what I understand, the Tanach aboard was not a paper version, rather some type of electronic one.

Yes, you are correct. Thanks for the comment.
ReplyDeleteI know this is similar to erasing Hashem's name on a digital recording, and I am aware that the Tanach aboard was digital, yet I was looking for another angle for being sad, other than the physical destruction of the device.
